Bishop Eddie Long responds about Senator’s probe into mega-churches!!!

Posted by Media Outrage on November 12, 2007

Bishop Eddie Long

In yesterday morning’s service Bishop Eddie Long spoke about Senator Charles Grassley’s request for financial details from 6 mega churches.

Long called the request by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) “unjust,” “intrusive,” and “an attack on our religious freedom and privacy rights,” during a brief address to the congregation during a morning service.

Other than releasing a statement last week, saying he would cooperate with the request, Long had been quiet.

[Grassley] wants to impose the will of government on our religious rights,” he said.

Many in the emotional and supportive crowd stood and cheered Long several times during his brief statement.

Whitney B. Williams of Marietta, a New Birth member said after the service, “That senator is a clown.”

He resents the financial aspersions the letters could cast on Long.

Bishop is a good man,” Williams said. “What they are saying is wrong.”

These tele-evangelist mega ministers need to stop their ostentations displays of conspicuous consumption and give the money to the needy. Two or three cars is enough for any family. Lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous are offensive to the everyday people. Just think how many mouths these Bentleys, Mercedes, etc could feed. As Jesus told the the rich ruler “sell all you have and give it to the poor.” Ministers learn to keep a low profile and donate most of your wealth to those who really need it.

Its about time this has come to pass. These so called preachers, ministers are nothing more than the devils workers.Little anti-christs. They distort the holy word of GOD to conform to their(yes their own needs). Greed a heart of crookedness. They live in huge houses(mansions) drive in luxury cars & fly in their own private planes. They say its all in the name of Jesus. Well they are nothing more than filty LIARS, Great Deceivers. Thay have even brain washed their congregation inot believing that the words they sat is truth, It isn’t. A great line is When you let go of whats in your hand(like hundreds to thousands of dollars) then God will let go of His hand to you.. As if to say you get a great financial blessing by giving more an more. I asked “what happens if you have nothing in your hand to give does this mean God gives nothing?” This is not the GOD i know at all. This is their lies. ALl of them are workers for the devil an yes they do need to be accountable. Accountable for all the money thats coming into these churches who dribble out very little to help the poor . I have asked for help when i fell on hard times(i was going to be out on the streets) an wrote to all of them that have been mention to be lookedinto,Hinn,Copeland,Dollar,Meyer,White,Long.Popoff,Murdock. and all of them say they will pray for me.. Isn’t that so nice when im out on the streets. Its a far cry from the scriptures to help your brother in need an share amongst each other.. I am Glad for all of them to be revealed of all their evil-hearted crooked ways.. I hope all get exposed for what they truely are workers of the DEVIL. God will crush them just like the head of the serpent.

  3. As I’ve already commented on this over at my blog, I must point out that congress is NOT targeting ‘Mega-Churches’, but a ‘Prosperity Gospel’ churches, several of which, under other news and grassroots investigations, have already shown themselves to be in VERY questionable waters financially.

p.s. – when I begin to see folks like Matt Chandler (the Village Church) and John Piper (Bethlehem Baptist)- both of whom pastor huge mega-churches, and both of which whom live VERY ‘average’ lives – under investigation, THEN I’ll begin to be worried.

  5. Man, what hypocrites! If you’re doing everything by the book and doing what you’re supposed to do, why not welcome the Senate investigation? It could prove once and for all that you’re not a crook, ripping off ‘the flock.’ But it won’t prove that, it’ll show otherwise in Long’s (and the other ’suspects’) case. He’s got a lot of dirty laundry in the closet and he really doesn’t want it brought into the light. But it’s OK. Maybe he can pay off someone to go easy on him. Personally, I hope GOD shows their naked a**es for what their worth.

The problem here is the government, which is hypocritical. The Senator claims to uphold the constitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” The Senator is obviously violating the the first amendment, if he tries to keep these people from honoring God in their own way, even if that way is spending money foolishly and is offensive to some. BTW if you are offended, try a little tolerance
Any enemy tries to isolated a small group and take them out a little at a time. That is what the senator is doing. What group is next? The Baptist’s or the Methodists, or your group. A house divided can not stand.

It has been reported that New Birth received a “faith based initiative grant” from the Republican party for three million dollars. It seems appropriate that the committee is delving into the financial doings of this church as well as others. This “pastor” is sleeping with the enemy. It has been documented historically that the republican party cares nothing about the average, poor population of this country as evidenced by the programs they have eliminated that were in place to provide assistance for those who needed it. In order to benefit from the corrupt political parties, he must continue to kiss up to them. And he wants to say that the government wants to infringe upon religious rights?

I have attended his church and found that it was difficult to maintain a spriritual frame of mind due to the theatrics, slick, jive talking and other theatrics. May I mention the fact that there was no sermon. God has order us to “test the spirit to see if it is of God.” People have been given the gift of critical thinking so that we may discern the godly or demonic spirit of others. To do so is proper. God has given us the ability to question and demands that we do so. Eddie Long has deceived his loyal members so that they are not capable of seeing the truth. I will pray for them. If there is no mis-use of the funds, there should be no worry about exposing the real records. Disbanding the board in order to prevent anyone else from questioning how the money is being used should have been the first wakeup call to his membership. The tithes and sacrifical offerings may not be honestly recorded; the benefits he received from his own charitable organization are suspicious. How many other’s are on his private, hush up payroll.

God has got to get in line behind Eddie Long because it is obvious that Eddie wants the glory.
Peace unto you all. The truth will out.

  8. These people are taking advantage of their congregations. They are nothing more than pimps and liars. Check this out…

You know if these so call preachers are fleecing the poor it sends a terrilble message to the flock. They are no different from the so call secular world. I believe the power of money corrupts absolutely. there’s a scripture that says not to put man above whats written about man. These are fallible men corrupted by money then have the gall to tell us GOD is not blessing us because we’re not giving them more of our money. it’s like they are on dope too.
