Wesley Snipes trial will stay in Ocala Florida

Posted by Media Outrage on 27th December 2007

Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes wishes of moving his tax-evasion trial from Ocala Florida were not granted.  Snipes argued that prosecutors deliberately chose the most racially discriminatory venue available,” an area that the actor claims is a “hotbed of Klan activity” and where “substantial pockets of prejudice exist.” Snipes also claimed that government lawyers were trying to get “an all white southern jury.”

Snipes also says that the Ocala area features statues honoring the KKK founder, and the hate groupadopted highways to commemorate the Klan.” Additionally, he adds, “the Confederate Flag flies over government property.”

Well Snipes federal tax-evasion trial will go forward next month in this central Florida city, despite arguments by the actor’s lawyers. The rulings were made by U.S. District Judge William T. Hodges on Monday, according to court documents.

His lawyers had claimed the 45-year-old actor cannot get a fair trial in Ocala, located about 80 miles north of Orlando. Snipes previously filed two motions to dismiss or transfer the trial because of racial prejudices.

Federal prosecutors have previously said there is “no basis in reality” for Snipes’ claims.

An October 2006 federal indictment charges Snipes with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling almost $12 million in 1996 and 1997 for income taxes already paid. The star of the “Blade” trilogy and other films also was charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004.

Snipes allegedly conspired with American Rights Litigators founder Eddie Ray Kahn and tax preparer Douglas P. Rosile Sr. to file false refund claims based on a bogus argument that only income from foreign sources was subject to taxation.

Lawyers argued Snipes had the right to a trial in New York, where he lived between October 2000 and April 2005 when the offenses allegedly occurred, or in Orlando, where he also has a home.

New York is engaged

Posted by Media Outrage on 27th December 2007

Tiffany Pollard

People is reporting that Tiffany Pollard aka ‘New York’ is officially engaged to ‘Tailor Made’ real name George Weisgerber a 32 year old retail planner from Queens, NY.

Via People:

Weisgerber proposed on the Dec. 17 finale, but Pollard turned him down, saying she wanted to wait 24 months before making any decisions about marriage. “I respected that,” Tailor Made told PEOPLE. “I cherish her. She’s what I need.”

On season 2’s reunion show that airs Jan. 6, he proposes to her again and, this time, “she says yes,” a source told PEOPLE exclusively. “They are madly in love. They are a great couple.”

I Love New York. In the freshman season, Pollard chose “Tango,” who, after a few months, called off their engagement, and a sequel was born. Weisgerber, who was separated while taping the show and is currently finalizing his divorce, admits he “always had a crush” on Pollard, and thought it fate when casting for season two began. “She needs a guy who will treat her right and respects her and values her for who she is, he told PEOPLE recently. “Our personalities complete each other. I cherish her and want to cater to her every need. But I’m not a doormat. We have a good balance.”

Ok check this out reality tv fans, ‘Flavor of Love‘ was the highest rated show in VH1 history right? So check it Flave is never going to settle down with any of the women that he picks because then that would end the show right? So we are guessing the same thing about ‘I Love New York‘. This is about money and ratings not love.

Something New York needs to think about…

Well, New York (the person) apparently doesn’t need a dating service now, but New Yorkers (the citizens) still do! Find New York dating services on the Internet!

Remy Ma hit with $20million lawsuit by accuser

Posted by Media Outrage on 27th December 2007

Remy Ma

Remy Ma accused her longtime friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph of stealing $2,000 out of her purse on the night of July 14 after her and entourage left a party in New York city’s Greenwich Village in which the altercation ended in gunfire with Remy Ma allegedly shooting Joseph twice in the abdomen.

Via SOHH:

According to the lawsuit, Barnes-Joseph had hosted a birthday party for a friend, which Rem also attended. Outside, after the party, the rapper approached Barnes-Joseph’s car with a gun. Remy opened the passenger door of Barnes-Joseph’s car, pointed a gun at her and demanded that Barnes-Joseph dump the contents of her purse.

When Barnes-Joseph refused, Remy allegedly shot her twice and then rummaged through the bag herself, while the shooting victim bled. When Rem didn’t find anything, she threw the contents aside and fled without calling for help.

Remy Ma has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges filed in connection with the shooting and her lawyer chocked the claims up to no more than a publicity stunt.

“[The lawsuit] appears to be a publicity stunt consistent with the way Ms. Barnes and her lawyer have, together with their publicist, been attempting to claim 15 minutes of fame on account of a terrible accident,” said Rem’s attorney, Ivan Fisher.

But Barnes-Joseph says her injuries are real.

She had to undergo surgery and blood transfusions while recovering and she remains disabled, fearful, anxious and depressed and still unable to return to work, according to the lawsuit. The suit also claims that because her injuries will require continuing medical treatment, Barnes-Joseph is entitled to at least $20 million in damages.

Meanwhile, Remy’s feeling the affects, too. The rapper is hurting for show bookings and a would-be recording contracted has been put on pause until her legal woes are resolved.

Remy is currently free on $250,000 bail.”

Definitely an example of when keeping it real goes terribly wrong….

Denzel talks about acting and directing

Posted by Media Outrage on 27th December 2007

Denzel

Here’s what Denzel had to say to Entertainment Weekly about his experience as actor and director of “The Great Debaters“.

Did you always know that you wanted to play real-life debate coach and author Melvin Tolson?
DENZEL WASHINGTON: No, absolutely didn’t want to play him.

So why did you end up in the role?
It’s called money. It’s called: They’re not gonna give you enough money unless there’s someone of a certain name to do it.

As the director of the film and an actor in it, did you find it hard to wear both hats?
Absolutely. It’s the worst part of it. When I did Antwone Fisher, I really hated it. But on this one, I just tried to embrace it, and have fun. It wasn’t so bad, but I wouldn’t really look forward to doing it again.

You don’t feel like it gets better the second time?
No — not the kind of actor I am. Because I’m dead serious about my acting.

How would you describe yourself as a director, then? Do you approach directing the same way?
I don’t. First, of all, I would try and say this: ”I want everybody to have a good time, I want everybody to work hard.” And if you talk to other people that were on this film, not too many of them will tell you they worked harder than me. I was the first one there, the last one to leave.

Tell us a little about young actress Jurnee Smollett, who plays debater Samantha.
DENZEL WASHINGTON: Jurnee was great. And let me tell you, these kids — Jurnee Smollett, and there’s another kid, who’s oddly enough by the name of Denzel Whitaker, he’s the young kid in the movie — you’ll be hearing [a lot about them in the future].

Sounds like he has a famous name already!
I mean, could you believe it? Denzel Whitaker. I told him, ”You almost didn’t get the job, just because of your name.” But he, Nate Parker, Jurnee, Jermaine Williams, are all excellent, excellent young actors. You know, the thing that makes me most proud is that I think I have a good eye for young actors, like when I did Antwone Fisher…Derek Luke turned out all right.

I think so. You may have helped him out a little bit.
A little bit. I think, you know, he’ll be able to eat from now on!

Can we talk a little bit more about Jurnee? People say this is going to be her breakout role.
Time will tell. I think she did a great job, and ”breakout” means someone has to give you a job, right? That’s what breakout means. It’s the most difficult for African-American women in this business. So I wouldn’t dare say that everything’s gonna happen great, because…who would you name that’s had a breakout role that’s her age? See what I mean? But I give her credit. She’s a great, great actress, and God willing, she will break out.

Guess who will be Halle Berry's baby's godmother

Posted by Media Outrage on 27th December 2007

Halle Berry

Rumors are swirling around that the Queen of all media (no not Wendy Williams) Oprah Winfrey has agreed to be Halle Berry’s baby’s godmom. We know they are good friends off camera. Well Halle already has money for days, and with a lot of extra love from Oprah her child will be well taken care of. Not that having tons of money makes you a great parent but having love and millions/billions is extra perk.
