Another racist political comment???

Posted by Media Outrage on April 10, 2008

We found this video here. David Bellavia who is about as well-spoken as Studdering Stanley, introduced Presidential candidate John McCain at a rally and made the comment “you can have your Tiger Woods, we’ve got Senator McCain.” He’s definitely out of pocket big time. Someone needs to schedule him as keynote speaker at a Black Panther rally.

Well I’ll be. Between him trying to get his words out (LOL at “Studdering Stanley”) and that Ten Gallon Hat in the back I don’t know what kept my attention.

If folk like Joseph C. Phillips don’t see McCain and his cronies for the racist that they are then I don’t know what it will take.

I’m trying to think of a non-racist explanation for the comment, but I’m afraid nothing comes to mind.

Bellavia was not comparing Tiger to Obama. He was simply making the point his sons will grow up to admire real heroes like John McCain and not sports figures like Tiger Woods. He used Tiger as an example because that is the first name to pop into his head. Yes, he took a jab at Obama at the end of his speech with the “Audacity of Hope” comment, but this was not about race either. David has been through hell and back and does not deserve these attacks. Did you know he is nominated for the Medal of Honor? Read his amazing book “House to House: An Epic Memoir of War”….then tell me what kind of person he is.

Regardless, to the fact of what he meant it was poorly phrased. Lets be real if Sen. Obama had said anything like that he would be raked over the coals.

As tense as this country is about race and race relations (and rightfully so) why stir the pot by mentioning names like Tiger Woods who is black in the same sentence as John McCain. Then to take a swipe at another Sen. Obama who is also black at the end of the sentence. He could have said you all can have Elton John (a Clinton supporter) and then at the end mention Sen. Clinton’s book “A Woman In Charge” or “Living History” since Sen. McCain wants to talk about his biography all the time.

However you try to spin this, it still was racial. And don’t tell me about Mr. Bellavia going through hell and back cause he can’t begin to know what hell is like from this side.
