Jeremiah Munsen pleaded guilty to a federal hate crime in which he hung two large nooses on the back of a pickup truck and drove past a crowd of peaceful marchers during the Jena 6 protest a few months ago.

Via Eurweb:

A white teen in Jena, Louisiana pleaded guilty Friday to a federal hate crime of threatening and intimidating civil rights marchers last year by displaying hangman’s nooses from the back of a pickup truck.

Federal authorities announced Friday that Jeremiah Munsen, 18, of Grant Parish admitted that he placed two large nooses on his truck Sept. 20 and drove back and forth past a group of marchers gathered at a bus depot in Alexandria — about 35 miles south of Jena, where the marches took place — as they awaited buses to return them to Tennessee.

“The defendant used a noose to threaten peaceful civil rights marchers who were in Louisiana to rally against racial intolerance,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker. Munsen, who faces up to a year in prison, will be sentenced at an August 15 hearing.

Marchers were in Jena to protest local authorities who were accused of racial prejudice in the handling of several cases, including the hanging of nooses in a tree after a group of black high school students sat in an area where traditionally only white students sat.

Mediaoutrage- A year for a federal hate crime in which he tried to incite a riot compared to the lifetimes they were trying to throw at the six young men for a school fight. SMH at the fact that after he was arrested that night law enforcement officials down there said it was just a prank. Discuss….

You know what would be very interesting to see since the racist law officials and some of the media painted the hanging of nooses as a prank if people started riding around with Swastikas on their trucks during a Jewish rally. Or if at a High School someone were to paint swastikas on the walls. I wonder if the teachers and administrators would still say it was a joke. I like to reserve forgiveness for ignorance because we all make mistakes so i dont wish any ill on this young man but yes he should definitely be punished for what he did because it was racist as hell. And his parents should be questioned also as to how he got his hands on a gun that he had in the truck. The officials in Jena definitely need to be removed and I am so glad that black people organized and protested down there to let America know that we won’t stand for this racist bull anymore. We’ve come too far to let a few racist hicks turn back time.

I want to add this also. I think this is a good thing in that it shines the light on the fact that racism is far from over in this country. The younger kids need to see this and the Jena 6 movement and protest because they feel so detached from the civil rights era and barely learn anything about black history in this country. But young black kids need to know what happened and how inhumanely we were treated in this country so they will take advantage of the opportunities and not take things for granted. And people shouldn’t use this as an opportunity to spread hatred towards white people but only to remain aware of the racism that still exist. I still believe Dr. King’s method was best. Love in the face of hatred.
