The most influential woman in the world
Posted by Media Outrage on May 12, 2008
Oprah Winfrey covers the latest issue of Black Enterprise Magazine that is due to hit stands on June 3rd. In this issue they discuss her power, money, influence, and philanthropy. Oprah is by far right now one of the most powerful and influential women in the world with a staggering net worth of $2.5billion. For the past 15 years or so everything she has touched or endorsed has turned to instant gold which is definitely a testament to her tremendous influence and power. Basically she’s just the bomb.
Via Concreteloop:
Oprah winfrey has been ranked the richest and most philanthropic black person of the 20th century, and she’s considered by some to be the most influential woman in the world. According to the June issue of Black Enterprise, which hits stands June 3, she is also the world’s most influential black entrepreneur.
On Friday, Oprah’s Harpo Inc. was named the 2008 BE100s Company of the Year. According to a press release, “She is a legend, an icon—but mostly, a mentor. Her unprecedented success in American business serves as the undisputed blueprint for many minority entrepreneurs. Her leadership has broken down barriers; her business instinct the stuff of legend; and her innovation unprecedented. She has spent her entire career beating the odds—and has inspired millions of business-minded minorities in the process.”
In Black Enterprise’s June cover feature, “Oprah Means Business,” Oprah talks about the winning formula that has taken Harpo from a five-person production company to a 430-employee multimedia conglomerate that grossed $345 million last year. She also explains that, “Treating people with respect is the most important thing to me. It’s not just talk. I don’t yell at people, I don’t mistreat people, I don’t talk down to people. So no one else in this building, in this vicinity, has the right to do it.”
Her show’s distribution contract ends in 2011, but Oprah is looking forward to her own network and promises that it will be more expansive than anything she’s ever developed: “My intention is for it to live beyond me, for it to be a living network of possibilities for people in their own lives,” she explains. “To be able to say that my life was used in service, to help people come to their highest potential—I would do it even if my name wasn’t attached to it.”

I love Oprah and always have. I love that she stands for empowering women. She has openly shared her past of being molested and raped which coming from her is a big deal to other women who have experienced those terrible things. I honestly don’t believe that there is a bigger star on this planet than Oprah. You guys are right she has helped more people and businesses than anyone else. Look what she did for authors with her book club. Look what she does for album sales when artist appear on her show. She is just a real person to me and i love her. She is all for education and what she is doing in Africa with that girl school is amazing she has a sweet heart.

There is so much any one person can say about Ms. Winfrey, both negative (supposed cult/church) and positive (power and philanthropy), but the fact remains that this woman has made something out of nothing. When you consider her history and where she came from and how she made it to where she is and add the fact that she is a black woman that has survived the Civil Rights Era then you know she deserves to be on the cover of BE. Like Lai’Lani said she has helped so many people whether they are authors or music artist, once she mentions your name you are on your way to the top.

I couldn’t agree with you guys more. I have loved Oprah for such a long time. She has paved the way for women everywhere, especially black women. When I see Oprah constantly doing her thing, that is one of my reminders, beside GOD, that I can really do anything in this lifetime that I want. Oprah is an icon, and I truly believe the reason Oprah so succesful is due to the fact that she has never been selfish with her money. What God has blessed her with, she continues to be a blessing on others. I wish she would just mention my name one time W2m, lol

Oprah is an Icon. She is bigger than any star in this country besides Michael Jackson but she is more important, significant, and relevant than MJ. He is more popular but she is more powerful. I love what this woman does for thousands of people. Whether or not her belief system is messed up who knows but as Sweetthang stated she has a heart of gold. Think about what tv would be like without her show. Tyra’s show won’t be able to fill the void. She educates about the body, and covers all other parameters on life. Love her a lot. Im definitely going to buy the issue to read what they say about her. Oh and she is pretty to me.

@Sweetthang, girl when she mentions your name I pray mine is right behind it. And if she doesn’t then we will push MO to the top so when they mention our names we will be instantly famous
@Wesley, wonderful comment.

@ Wesley, totally agree with you. Tyra’s show cannot hold a torch to Oprah’s show. When they (the media) asked Tyra why she wants to be like Oprah, she says, she wants to have Oprah’s money, if girlfriend is doing it just for the money and not because she truly cares about the topics she discusses and the people then she will NEVER be as successful as Oprah. That show the Big Give just goes to show Oprah’s love for giving to someone less fortunate. Tyra needs to jot down a hell of a lot of notes to even getting close to Oprah.

It’s all been said already, and I wholeheartedly agree with W2m’s comment. It needs nothing else added and is truth in it’s raw form.
@Wesley: Thank you for saying that my brother, it’s greatly appreciated.
