The staff at the New Yorker have decided to satirize Sen. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle with a cover that portrays them as fist bumping terrorist. Their article supposedly exposes all of the bullish lies and rumors that have been hurled Barack’s way during his run for Presidency.

Barack Obama’s campaign lashed out Sunday at the editors of The New Yorker Magazine for a cartoon cover that depicts the Democratic candidate and his wife as fist-bumping terrorists.
The magazine’s editor described the cartoon, called “The Politics of Fear,” as satire. The Obama campaign called it “tasteless and offensive.”
The Illinois senator is depicted in traditional Muslim garb in the Barry Blitt illustration set in the Oval Office.His wife, Michelle, is in fatigues, sporting an Angela Davis-style sky-high Afro, an AK-47 slung over her shoulder.
“The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Sen. Obama’s right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said.
New Yorker editor David Remnick seemed shocked by the backlash.
“Our cover … combines a number of fantastical images about the Obamas and shows them for the obvious distortions they are,” he said in a statement.
“The burning flag, the nationalist-radical and Islamic outfits, the fist-bump, the portrait on the wall – all of them echo one attack or another. Satire is part of what we do, and it is meant to bring things out into the open, to hold up a mirror to the absurd. And that’s the spirit of this cover,” Remnick said.
The magazine does not explain the cover. Inside are lengthy stories that look at how Chicago politics shaped the candidate and at allegations that he flip-flops on major issues.
Obama brushed off the brouhaha. “I have no response to that,” he told reporters when asked about the cover, but his supporters are infuriated.
Mediaoutrage- What’s your take on the cover? A malicious attack? Or innocent satire? Our take is they knew what the H they was doing when they constructed that cover. Imagery is very important. After all of the attacks that Barack has been hit with why even contribute to that?

Anyway, why aren’t they depicting cartoons of the weakened state of the economy, the Bush administration, the billion dollar a day war, and the stock market; while these issues are proven facts. However, the depiction of Obama and his wife are false accusations created from his opposers who seek to destroy the candidate’s reputation within the minds of the American voters.

This is one of the most sadistic attacks against us not only against the future president but us as a people. The depiction is not from the masses but by the media fueled by speculation and rumors. The facts remain simple. Republicans are costing us billions a day on a war we can’t win. As crazy as this is about to sound, I find it as satrical art. There are so many people that are ignorant to the fact that Barack isn’t muslim. Yet they take his name and his race as a convincing factor that he is. I don’t think there was any intentional harm with the photo but like you said MO, imagery is everything and it was pretty tasteless to go that route. There could’ve been plenty of other ways the magazine could’ve gotten that point across without that particular drawing.

I think it was intentional to continue infiltrating people’s minds with certain questionable images of Obama. Yep they could have went with another photo and then explained within the article what they were trying to depict to the readers.

As a life member, I am currently a delegate at the NAACP National convention. My cross-country pilgrimage was definitely worth the investment!! I witnessed Barack Obama’s speech LIVE, that is currently running on C-SPAN. More details to follow…indeed the most memorable night of my life!!
OBTW…it appeared he was sporting ARMANI…tan / khaki…crisp and clean…a blue tie I believe? STONE COLD Ladies…this man is on fire!!
The whole thing was UNBELIEVABLE!!

I say this because this magazine unlike Rush, Hannity, Fox News, and a few others(that are racist) has a satire background… Thats what this magazine does…
What the cover does is put a mirror on the stupid feelings that many people in our country have. I have had conversations only a year ago with white people who have said.
and I quaote, “I don’t know about this guy. He has an Islamic name.”
I have heard Rush and Sean. Hannity just last week on talk radio scaring these stupid peole,(and yes I do listen to talk radio that is not sports only to be up on what the good ol boy’s are agreeing with so that by the time I get into work I’m educated on the reason behind the Bullshyt im in for..)
I hear Hannity, Glenn beck, and Rush trying to scare the Shyt outta these red necks with the most obscure lies about the Obama Fam…
What this cover does is take what everyone who has lied and everyone who believed the lie that these people conjure up and it draws a literal picture only to show how dumb they really look to believe the madness…

@ Beatbanga77. I have respect for You because you have proven youself to very intelligent, well versed and talented, Im sure. But I took into account what you said here and I agree when it come to a satire, Point noted and definition recognized. Now I read the article that you posted and it was indeed blasting Bush Administration. Guess what, the same magazine was also talking about how Obama had ties to Chicago Gangstas and other undesirables in the city. Now, I spend a little time in court (do to work of course) and Its just like when a Lawyer says something that he knows he should not say in court. He knows that it will be stricken from the record but it is still in the mind of the jurors, very effective tactic.
Now I do appreciate you being optamistic about the whole thing because it would be nice for someone to stand up and say that people are being real dumb about these rumors. But Obamas staff, his advisors, he himself and his family found this to be offensive. Now out of all of these people, I would like to think that the man that might run this country and the people around him might be smart enough to know when the New Yorker is being satiricle and has good intentions behind a post or article. Im a regular person, meaning not a politician. But the polticians know when something is a low blow. And the politicians are saying this is a “Andrew Gollata Low Blow” I read some of their articles that were archived and Wendy Williams came to mind. Wendy Williams is in the business of clowning people no matter who you are and I think this Magazine is as well.

Yes Barack Obama and his staff are extremely intelligent as you don’t make it this far in the election without being surrounded by very smart individuals that are able to recognize satire from a low blow. Not only that as I stated earlier in my post and MO did why put certain imagery out there right now as this man is running for the highest office in the land and still under attack? People are very judgmental and images and rumors get stuck and embedded in their minds so they knew what the hell they were doing and plus their article didn’t even explain the freaking cover. However, I am aware of the New Yorker’s previous images (unfortunately I have a Caucasian Grandmother that has every issue of the New Yorker magazine since the 1960’s). Although I am neither Republican nor Democrat, I feel that the New Yorker should be focused on more relevant issues at hand instead of Obama’s family tree and suspected religious affliations! No one is talking about McCain’s background or the origin of his name there are more important issues that need to be addresses such as: the establishment of a federal budget for the federal government. Dept. of Defense has wasted billions of dollars in weapons that do not work. Meanwhile, we have American citizens struggling to pay for the increased costs of premiums on their health care insurance and lets not forget the high cost of GAS and FOOD! All I want to know is how these candidates are going to handle these issues I could care less if Obama was Muslim, Hindu or Baptist!

There are associations that Oboma has had in the 90’s with this these people that planned a lot of bombings in America back in the 70’s William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn of the weather underground..

We have seen this one before. When Fox News put up a picture of Bin ladin up while speaking of Oboma.
