Vick still has a shot

Despite the fact that Mike Vick is currently serving time behind bars for his role in the dog fighting ring he is still being sought to play football again once released.

Michael Huyghue, the commissioner of the upstart United Football League, which plans to start play in 2009, is chomping at the big to throw millions at Vick. He sees Vick as the star attraction of his soon-to-be fledgling league.
The big news, I suppose, from my talk with Huyghue was this: He said the chances of a UFL team signing Michael Vick to play the 2009 season are “98 percent.” Strange percentage, but that’s what he said.
“Michael’s not going to be able to walk right back into the NFL,” Huyghue said. “He’s going to need some kind of buffer before he signs in the NFL, and we’ll be able to provide that for him.”
don’t know if Vick’s going to need a buffer or not, but he is going to need cash. And I can’t see any NFL team giving him more than the veteran’s minimum, whereas the UFL could conceivably pay him in the neighborhood of $4 million a year. The prestige of being an NFL player is nice, but not being broke is probably a higher priority.
And it would be completely worth it for the UFL, too, even if Vick is never the player he once was. The attention and curiosity he’ll generate is something they won’t be able to get from any other player, I don’t care who they pluck off an NFL roster.

Ucanb2 please further explain why you feel the man needs to be broke and not continue in his career? He’s presently serving time for his crime, why do you feel he should be continuously punished? Don’t get me confused, I’m in no way defending his behavior. During a trip to Puerto Rico my tour guide informed me that cock fighting was a major attraction there. In Spain thousands pack stadiums to witness a bull fighter kill a bull and then he’s applauded all in the name of culture. Listen people, Mike Vick is paying for his sin. Ucanb2 you said that he made a stupid mistake which I agree it was stupid, but not a mistake. He should be and is being punished for his crime, but after he serves his time he should be allowed to go on with his life.

i hope he comes out on top. i think yeah he made a mistake but who doesnt. i think its ridiculous the time he got, not to mention the monetary and personal ramifications. and im not understanding ucan2’s reasoning, he should be what?? broke? for some damn dogs? please, them popo’s that killed sean bell are chilling right now writing tickets. and that was a human. come on i mean i dont condone dog fighting, dont really care actually, but, lets put this in perspective. he got convicted cause he was famous. and brought the most attention. them dudes turned on his ass so fast and they were the ones runnin the shit. where is the justice in that?

Im with Terrance: If Vick should be broke for committing the crime of killing and fighting dogs then every rich MoFo in America should be broke because most of them have killed more than dogs. Some have killed humans all for the love of the almighty dollar. If you do a little digging you will be suprised who has either committed murder or has had someone offed. You get rich and stay rich and have clean hands. Trust that.
