I wanna be an icon

Beyonce covers the October issue of Marie Claire looking extremely beautiful. It looks like the Beyonce publicity campaign for her next album is about to start so Solange better get all of the record sales in that she possibly can because looks like her time is about up. Are you feeling this cover? Here are a few excerpts from the article below.
Via Marie Claire:
She’s been quoted in the past as saying there’s a time limit on being a pop star. ‘Being a pop star, yes,’ she responds. ‘Being a legend, an icon, absolutely not. And, at this point, that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m over being a pop star. I don’t wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic. And I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot. I feel like I’m highly respected, which is more important than any award or any amount of records. And I feel like there comes a point when being a pop star is not enough.’
By her own admission, Beyoncé is very ‘reserved’ off-stage. ‘I’ve created an alter ego [she refers to her on-stage persona as ‘Sasha’]: things I do when performing I would never do normally. I reveal things about myself that I wouldn’t do in an interview. I have out-of-body experiences [on stage]. If I cut my leg, if I fall, I don’t even feel it. I’m so fearless, I’m not aware of my face or my body.’ So, when she sang, “I can have another you in a minute. Matter fact, he’ll be here in a minute”, in hit song Irreplaceable, was she referring to Jay-Z? ‘I’m sure people think I wrote it about [Jay-Z] or something, but…the obvious person is not the person at all.’
Does she feel she’s paved the way for more African-American women to achieve huge success? ‘I am really proud that I am one of the artists that has the opportunity to be on magazine covers and to be in the movies. And I do think that I’m opening doors for more black women, just like Halle [Berry] and Diana Ross opened doors for me.’
Mediaoutrage- Spoken like the true legend in the making star she is. Do you feel Beyonce will reach legendary status? Will she be an icon? Is she already an icon?

Flawless. Love Bey. Nothing bad you can say about this cover. Glad she’s about to drop an album cause music is wack right now but Bee can help rescue it lol

Yes she will definitely retire a legend. If she continues to work as hard as she already does and score more movie roles drop more great albums and rack up endorsements there will be no denying her as an icon. I personally think she’s already bigger than Halle Berry. There’s a match up for your “Who’s the bigger celebrity?” category MO Halle vs Beyonce.

Yes she’s already an Icon. I agree with Cyndy that if she continues to work hard and not do what many celebrities do which is get hooked on some drugs or something crazy then yes she will secure legendary status.

Beyonce is a very attractive woman! With Solange’s album already out, there will be room for both of them by the time Bey’s is released.

When you look at image and marketability there is no singer or actress for that matter that possesses more potential.
She is an icon. Will retire a Legend.
As much as I respect Alicia Keys’ career, she doesn’t possess what “B” does. Alicia is not as marketable. Alicia is not a sex symbol. That girl B got it yall lol.

The Knowles’ struck Gold when they started developing her talent and decided to push her.

Sure she is an icon but she reminds me of my lil sister all ways walking around proving to every one that she is a good girl.
People like her want to have fun but are to afraid of what people will think or say.

I think Bey is okay, althought I personally have never bought one of her albums. I think Bey just had a look and with the right look, you can market anyone. She didn’t start her own career, her father pulled all the strings to get her put on. I think there are a lot of girls who want to look like her and a lot of guys that think she is sexy. I prefer real talent like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Fantasia. That’s just me. But Bey has lots of fans and maybe she IS already an icon to some folks. To each his or her own. I think she’s cute but shallow. IMO

She’s gorgeous. Jay is one lucky cat. She’s going to be bigger than Lena Horne and Diana Ross.

Bey is absolutely flawless… and I am glad that she has pretty much kept a low profile she is in the media but not in a bad way. The mode that she is in she can go as far as she wants…Represent HOME-TOWN-GIRL!!!!!!

@ MO…
Why’d you change the header?!
September 4, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Seconds Netta! Homegirl gets praise from the likes of Patti, Tony Bennett, Tina Turner and many more. She aint just a pop star, she’s an icon already.
September 4, 2008 at 3:11 pm
@ Rocksee…because we happen to glance the article and saw that she said she wants to be an icon. So we thought it was more appropriate lol.
September 4, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Yup she is already an icon esp. when it comes to the media!
September 4, 2008 at 5:45 pm
lol @ Ms. E. the media is in love with her especially M.O. LOL

I’m sorry but you haters get on my nerves!!!
Anyway, I love this cover. This is one of her best, makes me wanna go buy Marie Claire and I don’t even read the magazine. Although MC is my number 1, Bey is my close second. She’s poised, intelligent, hard working, and someone all women she look up to. She’s classy…
