Posted by Media Outrage on October 3, 2008

Eve was really up on her game last night in NYC at the 2008 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors. We’re feeling the hairstyle and outfit. All the hip-hop legends were in attendance. Slick Rick is still looking like he robbed an Egyptian tomb with all them gold ropes. Just enjoy the pics.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: VH1 Hip Hop Honors and KRS One/Bobby Brown concert
    Full report: Myspace.com/blackpress

Oct. 2, 2008 – LIVE on Location at the Hammerstein Ballroom/Madison Sq. Garden

(BlackPressMagazine.com) – If you think watching Bobby Brown and KRS One in concert together is weird as hell, wait until you read about my night.

As promised, I’m posting an exclusive update on the LIVE taping of the 2008 VH1 Hip Hop Awards tonight in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom, now called the Manhattan Center.

My initial thoughts were this was like a dress rehearsal for the upcoming BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta in two weeks. I mean, there was NO excitement, no buzz and it just felt……blah. I guess Lyntina Townsend and the media relations crew at BET have spoiled me with the big production that Viacom music channels produce. But…..instead it was a fairly quiet event. It kinda of reminded me of the jazz versus hip hop argument. Jazz being where older people go to chill out and hip hop being where young people come to make the scene, create drama and put on a great show…..both outside and inside.

    Forget about hip hop?

Since I was splitting my time between the VH1 Hip Hop Awards and the KRS One/Rakim kickoff of the “Stop the Violence Tour” concert across the street at Madison Square Garden, I thought I found the perfect time to sneak out. But apparently, I was wrong because I literally ran into a few big wigs including music industry exec Kevin Liles who told me that “America should forget about hip hop.”

“The only thing we should be thinking about for the next 30 days is voting and change,” he said before he gave a big plug to T.I. on his new CD, “Paper Trail.”

Next I spent a few minutes with MTV host Sway who was oddly sexy and a lot of fun. Look out for his BlackPressRadio.com commercial coming soon.

I somehow ended up back at the red carpet so I interviewed a few more people, made sure the photographers were good and decided to leave for the Garden. But……as my luck would have it I wouldn’t be able to leave because as I left the VIP gate I bumped into a big, Black, “John Thompson” looking security guard who was repping VH1 Hip Hop Awards host and comedian Tracey Morgan.

Rocking a Black Kangol hat, a lilac colored button down shirt, deep purple striped tie, Morgan was in true form. So, as I do with everyone I asked, “Hey Tracey. Do you have a minute for a quick interview?” He politely answered, “Hell NO! I’m about to start the show!” as he boarded the 42 Crosstown MTA bus. I was afraid I might end up in the show because that would be one funny clip with me asking for an interview and him shutting me down. Hell, I’d watch that.

I raced back to the red carpet and grabbed my photographers and we got the exclusive photos of Morgan on the bus about a minute before it took off and dropped him in front of the red carpet about 25-30 feet away. We were able to get photos of him as he departed the bus, raised his hand and waved to the crowd and then entered the ballroom.

Since it was past 8 at that point, I decided I had to leave. But, as I started to walk I bumped into the rock hard chest of rap icon Melle Mel, who was rocking a solid white, pinstriped silk suit and long dreads tucked under a matching hat. I’m sure the hat has a fancy name but my head was starting to hurt from my clumsy night, so I can’t remember it.

We did the whole walk-and-talk thing that I perfected covering U.S. presidents and Black politicians in Washington, DC. His cologne was off the chain and he was just really nice. People were stopping their cars to yell gratitudes to him. It was a great way to end my evening at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors.

I finally escaped from the VIP barrier gates and made my way across the street and debated which entrance I should use so I decided to go to 34th and 7th where I again bumped into another celebrity. This time it was R&B crooner and America’s favorite bad boy, Bobby Brown, who was rocking street gear of a basic Tee, jeans and a white baseball cap. His clean shaved face seemed bloated and he looked as tired as I felt.

Wanting to be fair I gave him the same treatment: “Bobby. DC Livers from BlackPressRadio.com. Got a minute for a quick interview?”

“Naw…but you can come with us though if my manager says it’s okay,” said the former New Edition member and Whitney Houston’s baby daddy.

I knew that wasn’t going to be an option because from past experience I’ve learned that hanging with a performer minutes before they perform means a night a waiting, waiting and getting acquainted with his staff…but rarely the star himself. But, I realized that I likely blew my KRS One moment cause I stayed too long at VH1, so I persisted.

“Ok Bobby. While I wait for Tommy (his manager and brother), can you do a quick drop?”

“Oh, give me a minute. I can do that right Tommy? He has to say its ok or you’ll have problems,” he said. I glanced at Tommy, but when I saw the Beyonce-lookalike groupie pushing up on him, I knew getting his attention in the time it took for them to walk from their car to the entrance would be difficult at best. I was right. I didn’t get that Bobby Brown drop, but I did get to see why he’s such a guilty pleasure. He’s very charismatic and just seems fun as hell.

So…….stay tuned for my official report on youtube.com/blackpress and myspace.com/blackpress and of course BLACKPRESSRADIO.com.

    Thanks for your support!
