Headed To The White House
Posted by Media Outrage on November 6, 2008
Last night was simply amazing. Barack Obama coasted to victory and gained a total of 349 electoral votes compared to John McCain’s 147. Barack received 62,806,760 popular votes to McCain’s 55,650,160. Many media outlets had predicted a landslide in favor of Obama. Barack galvanized the masses especially the celebrities. 145 years after Lincoln reluctanly signed the Emancipation Proclamation which liberated the African slaves, we then proudly elected the first African American President last night. President Obama. That sounds so good to me
President Obama. Leader of the land of the free
With Timberlands on, you’d think I was six feet five
But today I’ve never felt taller in any day I’ve been alive
Joy exudes from my body. There’s an excitement I can’t hide
It’s so hard to explain, it’s a different type of pride
Yes we can! Yes we will! And yes we did
But this is only the latest stop in our journey to rid
To rid America of it’s injustice and inequality
And I thank you President Obama with great sincerity
For the dreams of all our ancestors you decided to tote
From M.L.K. to Harriet Tubman to the slaves brought over on a boat
Slaves cast away in chains… beaten with whips
Mothers who had their children torn away from their hips
Our people were sold on auction like a piece of equipment
That alone is worth a thousand years of resentment
Our women were raped freely. We were forced in the fields to pick cotton
The struggles of our people shall never be forgotten
We were sprayed with fire hoses… beaten and thrown in jail
Being black in America was the closest thing to hell
Hung from trees and set on fire from the kkk
And through it all we overcame. Look at us today
When I was fifteen years old, a white man called me a dumb nigger
Because I said, “One day our president would be black.” How about that… go figure
He said, “Before a black man is president, it’ll be a cold day in hell!”
I hope satan and his demons have bundled up well
I take time to reflect on all of the drama
We went from yes sir massa’ to yes Sir, President Obama
You took Mr. King’s dream and you ran through the door
President Obama… number forty-four
Like Mike and Lebron, I wanted to wear twenty-three
But now you’ll see a sticker of forty-four on any jersey on me
Just like this poem, that’ll be a tribute to you
For all you have done and all you will do
I told myself when you won, I would act a straight fool
Til you stepped on that stage and redefined cool
In order to honor you, I can’t act an ass
Because President Obama, you’re the epitome of class
And we thank you so much, for taking a chance
For so many people, you are a true deliverance
With the economy down and everyone wanting to mope
You made us believe. We thank you for hope
And we know the struggles not over. No this is only the beginning
But with this new found hope, we can again see the ending
Just like the Reverends Martin, Jessie, and Al saw the end of segregation
We can see the end of the struggle, under your delegation
So in what will now go down as the greatest demonstration
Of hope and change in the history of our nation
President Obama… we thank you
First Lady Obama… we thank you
People today if you’re riding in anything from a hoopty to a Range
Honk your horn five times as you say, “It’s Time For A Change!”

I was at grant park in Chicago, I did not have a ticket, however that was the last thing I needed. It was so unreal and so much love and tears of joy.I watched the jumbotron with watery vision, chills and happiness I will never be able to put into words. I know there is a long road to putting this economy on the course of prosperity, I ask us not to forget Mr. President said he is not a perfect man, he will not be a perfect president. I thank god for Nov 4th and all it stood for in this place and time, and this time in this season of lifes changes….
