Actress Natasha Richardson Dies

Actress Natasha Richardson was taken off life support yesterday after being injured in a skiing accident that many didn’t believe was that serious. Dr’s said that she began bleeding in the brain which put her in a coma. This is very sad news.
Via CNN:
Natasha Richardson, a film star, Tony-winning stage actress and member of the famed Redgrave acting family, died Wednesday after suffering injuries in a ski accident, according to a family statement. She was 45.
Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson, was injured Monday in a fall on a ski slope at a Quebec resort about 80 miles northwest of Montreal.
Richardson’s family released a statement saying, “Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”
According to a statement from Mont Tremblant Ski Resort, Richardson fell during a lesson on a beginners’ trail.
“She did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor,” the statement said.
Richardson, accompanied by her instructor, returned to her hotel, but about an hour after the fall was “not feeling good,” the statement said. An ambulance was called, and Richardson was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal. From there she was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
Mediaoutrage- Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, family and friends during this tragic happening. The coroner’s report is right here.

That’s scary. I didn’t know that you could have an accident…. walk away from the accident, and then become brain dead hours later.
My condolences is with her fam.

They sure didn’t waste any time taking her off of life support, I wonder what the diagnosis was. I would hope my husband would hold out for a week at least, just in case I’m still in there. What a sad story.

This is really tragic. My condolences to her family, especially her young sons. It can’t be easy for them to lose a parent, especially their mother, at such a young age. I pray for their strength the most.

This story was so unbelievable and tragic. I was stunned.
Being alive and in good health, then 3 or 4 days later you are dead just from taking a small fall on the beginners ski slopes.
My heart goes out to the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I liked her in Parent Trap and Maid in Manhatten.
People should not speculate on why her family removed her from life support. The neurologists perform many tests over a time period to determine if someone is brain dead. Those hours are very difficult for the family and for the patient. The patient’s body is slowly dying, starting to get cold, and the family is just praying for any proof of life. The internal organs start failing and you still refuse it is over. The brain is unable to send the signals the body needs to function.
Many people have directives that specifically say they do not want to be kept on life support if they are declared clinically dead. Once removed, the person may breath on his or her own for a few minutes even.
My family went through a similar situation when my beautiful, vibrant mother had bleeding on the brain from a stroke and was brain dead within hours.
