An Hour Long Series?

Mara Brock Akil, is set to pitch The Game, as an hour long series instead of the half-hour slot it currently holds.

Via Singersroom:

For those of you holding on to hope that theCW would not cancel ‘The Game’, things may be looking up.

According to a recent report, Mara Brock Akil (producer) is expected to pitch the show as an hour long series in vein of “Gossip Girl” and “Ally McBeal” !

If all goes well that is an hour full of Tasha Mack, Malik, Derwin, Melanie, Jason, Kelly and the remainder of ‘The Game” cast.

With good news however, comes a little bad news. Sources say if the Game is unable to pull off such a feat the show will likely face cancellation like its predecessors “Girlfriends,” “Cuts” and “All of Us”.

Since moving to Fridays, ‘The Game’ has only been able to pull in an average of 1.9 million viewers per episode.

I love, Love, LOVE The Game. That is MY SHOW!! I think the writing is stupendous. I wonder how Mara Brock Akil would be able to pull of the story line being an hour, but I’m sure she can do it. Lord I want to meet this woman. I hope she is successful. I can’t wait to see the season finale.

The reasons why the ratings slipped is because of the move to Fridays. CW knew what it was doing when they did that. You didn’t see Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill going to Friday. Most folk are out and about on that night.

And if DT loves the show then heck its got to be good, LOL.

The television industry is very cunning in how they deal with non-traditional shows that depict African Americans. They undertsand the social trends of every demographic and schedule shows accordingly. In this case, they moved the show to a day and time in which they knew that the primary viewership would not be tuned into the program. This does not affect shows with primarily white casts in the same way because we are an integral part of their viewership (how many of us were committed to Friends, Ally McBeal, and still committed to Brothers and Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy??)as they are not an integral part of ours. African American shows that withstood the cut were shows that were never re-scheduled to another slot and time, e.g. The Cosby Show and The Jeffersons…and there are many reasons for why they really continued to do well, but I have stood on my soapbox long enough :)

I hope the hour-long pitch helps.

I don’t want the show…I think I watch the very first episode and didn’t like. You would think I love it since I aspire to be the wife of an athlete…j/k….but I don’t…I miss girlfriends though….

I love this show… these networks piss me off. A show will have a great time-slot with high ratings and then they move it to another night pitched against something in it’s 7th season.
    BITCHES!!!!

Love the show! Cancelling it will show just how obvious it is that the networks don’t wanna see Blacks on TV.

Ms. E you might as well start boycotting now cause the only shows they(TheCW) have for us are The Game & Everybody Hates Chris. So you know if The Game gets pulled they’ll do the same to Everybody Hates Chris. After that there’s nothing left.
