Now that Tyler Perry is really blowing up on the Hollywood scene, we want to know what you really think of his films. Are Tyler Perry’s films stereotypical garbage, or excellent pieces of work?? Should he also branch off into other types of films like; action, sci-fi, murder mystery?

I think he is trying to do the same as the cosby show, and that’s to show African Americans in a different light other than the typical gangbanging, raping and stealing in movies.
I like his movies and there is a message in his movies. There is so much more to the black culture than the babyboy type movies. Tyler Perry wants to show that and for that i applaud him. I would like to see a mystery movie or one that does not end the way we want them to.

Hollywood, and America seems to love his movies right now, so no need to change the recipe just yet. I’m the avg budget for his films is 8 millions, avg domestic gross 300 millions, that is and excellent return, and a very good investment for his studio.

I think his writing and acting skills are getting better with each movie. At first I thought his movies were Country as Steve Harvey bottom lip but now, They’re pretty good.

Yes I wish he would come with some diversity. I like most of his movies but I’m kind of tired of Madea. The Family That Preys was good because it was totally different. My favorite TP film is Why Did I get married? I hear part 2 is being filmed now so Im looking forward to seeing that. But yea he needs to branch out into other ideas. I like his messages though.

Here’s the catch with Tyler Perry and his films:
Tyler is a smart man with great messages to convey. The problem isn’t necessarily the “kinds” of films, but HOW they are actually executed.
The productions look a little too slick, the extras and character interactions are not consistently authentic. I find that he writes better for women than for the men in his films, which I also find interesting. And there seem to be common themes that take away from the element of the surprise.
Must every film have a climactic gospel choir scene, and a predictable romantic conflict? I just think that he should expand and think a little outside the box in terms of casting and filming style. His work has gotten better. But I think it’s overrated.

The “Madea” series needs to be put to rest. Overrated is exactly right.
“Why Did I Get Married” – I enjoyed it since it explored relevant issues with well-developed (and funny) characters.
I think he should continue to develop projects that give us intelligent, funny, characters and plots that explore topics that make you think.

IMO, his movies are somewhere in the middle, not garbage and not excellent…..yet. I like the message in his movies and the endings have closure that I am always happy with.
I never did like the few plays I have seen of his work because I don’t like plays where people are talking then burst into singing. Throws me off.
But I always say if it’s not broke……

i love tyler perry movies i love his work i jus hope he doesn’t put gabrielle union in anymore of his movies to me she’s not a good actress like in daddy’s little girls someone like jada or sanna should have played that role that gabrielle union had but other than that the movie was beautiful…

I enjoy TP’s work that he works really hard to portray the black community in a positive but realistic light.
I think he would do good to branch out also, I definitely love a good action/suspense movie.

I think that it is stereotypical to some degree, but a lot of our stereotypes are true. We just hate to admit that. I like that he portrays black people who are successful, those who are struggling, and those who are in between. It’s motivating & I love him for giving us that.

Excellent and entertaining. You can learn something from his films. They are not just negative. I see the whole story (good, bad and the ugly). Love him!
