When will these KKK members stop hiding behind badges and guns and just come out in the open draped in the ceremonial white sheets? Justin Barrett of the Boston Police, sent out a mass email referring to Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as a “banana-eating jungle monkey.” SMH….

A Boston police officer who sent a mass e-mail referring to Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as a “banana-eating jungle monkey” has apologized, saying he’s not a racist.
Officer Justin Barrett told a Boston television station on Wednesday night that he was sorry for the e-mail.
“I regret that I used such words,” Barrett told CNN affiliate WCVB-TV. “I have so many friends of every type of culture and race you can name. I am not a racist.”
Barrett was placed on administrative leave after the e-mail surfaced, and he might lose his job as a result.
In a news conference held Thursday morning, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis denounced the e-mail.
“We have a relationship to maintain with the community,” he said. “Police officers certainly have First Amendment rights, but they can’t cross the line. I believe this crosses the line.”
Davis said he spoke Wednesday with Gates, who was “gracious and incredibly thankful that we took action.”
Barrett, 36, who is also an active member of the National Guard, sent off a fiery e-mail to some fellow Guard members — as well as The Boston Globe — in which he vented about a July 22 Globe column about Gates’ controversial arrest.
In Barrett’s e-mail, which was posted on a Boston television station’s Web site, he declared that if he had “been the officer he verbally assaulted like a banana-eating jungle monkey, I would have sprayed him in the face with OC (oleoresin capsicum, or pepper spray) deserving of his belligerent non-compliance.”
Barrett used the “jungle monkey” phrase four times, three times referring to Gates and once referring to Abraham’s writing as “jungle monkey gibberish.”
He also declared that he was “not a racist but I am prejudice [sic] towards people who are stupid and pretend to stand up and preach for something they say is freedom but it is merely attention because you do not get enough of it in your little fear-dwelling circle of on-the-bandwagon followers.”
Barrett’s comments were taken out of context, said his attorney, Peter Marano.
“Officer Barrett did not call professor Gates a jungle monkey or malign him racially,” Marano said. “He said his behavior was like that of one. It was a characterization of the actions of that man.”
According to a statement from Boston police, Commissioner Edward Davis took action immediately on learning of Barrett’s remarks, stripping the officer of his gun and badge.

An officer in the Boston Police Department was suspended yesterday for allegedly writing a racially charged e-mail about Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. to colleagues at the National Guard, a law enforcement official said. Mayor Thomas M. Menino compared the officer to a cancer and said he is “gone, g-o-n-e” from the force.
Menino said he was angry when Davis informed him of the incident Tuesday night. Of the suspended officer, Menino said he told Davis: “He has no place in this department and we have to take his badge away. That stuff doesn’t belong in our city and we’re not going to tolerate it.”
The mayor stressed that the incident was about one officer, and ”one officer doesn’t make up a police department.”
Menino, speaking to the Globe before an evening event in the South End, said he hadn’t seen the e-mail Menino said while the officer is not officially terminated, he might as well be “He’s gone, g-o-n-e. I don’t care, it’s like cancer, you don’t keep those cancers around.”

What his apology really met: I am sorry my email got out the way it did. I though I was sending it to those that feel like myself about black people. I am a racist,only I want to remain in the closet about it and will mistreat any black face i see the first chance I get.
My job is on the line so let me say whatever it is i need to say to save it.
I think they become cowards when the spotlight is on them. If you are proud of what you think and feel shout it out to the world, only don’t take a public office where you promise to serve and protect otherwise you might be the one needing protection.
Case in point there was an incident in Memphis where a racist officer was always in this one black area giving those people pure hell, well wouldn’t you know the officers comrade answered a call met for him and was killed. (The Shannon Street incident). If we all took up arms against Police Officers where would that leave this country? In a free for all.

This goes back to the question of the day post–Times haven’t changed because the people aren’t trying to change. They rather be closeted racist or out in the open racist(Fox & Co.). But, either way you look at it- things still remain the same no matter what era we’re living in. And “they” always screaming blacks playing the race card.

Now I wasn’t there but I’m more than sure when the officer arrived and approached the Brotha,he advised the cop that he was the owner of that home.And I would also like to think Mr Gates had ID. or something verifing he was the owner and resident of that home.So what the phuck was the problem,I’ll tell you the problem Officer Klansman knows he is one of the BLACK PROFESSOR at the college.And don’t like the fact that a blackman is a professor at there prestegis college,Opening the door for himself to possibly become Senetor,Governor,hmmmm even President.Ain’t that a BIOTCHHHHH.MAANNNNNNN.

To use the kind of “language” he did, it goes without saying, that he’s racist and full of some hatred. The Boston Police Department will send the WRONG message to residents or the City and Nation if he is NOT TERMINATED after the hearings. How can you say that you are trying to improve relations race or otherwise and then pat an officer on the back by not terminating him for acting in such a blatantly offensive manner? Change is never comfortable. But things must change.
