This is a shoot at down south rap. When the east coast was hot you did not hear anyone from the south complaing about rappers saying yo son yo son yo son, or wearing there tims in the summer time. When the west coast had it now one said that rapping about banging, or crip walking, or drive bys was killing rap. Rap is in the south right now, and reflecting that. Its a over exaggerated, but so is hip hop from day one. I grew up in the south when NAS was first coming out, and he was my favorite rapper. I think he still is the dopest MC alive. Let the south have there time.

I would like it if hip-hop artists like Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Rakim, Nas, KRS One, Run DMC, you know the ones who had substance, would record a whack ass, "this-is-how-I-brush-my-teeth" type song. Maybe if the real artists these noise makers "look up to" made a dumb ass record it will be like looking in the mirror and the bullshit will stop.

Terrance that's all truth what you wrote. And that link was nothing but truth. I'm all for the old skool stuff. The younger generation can have and keep what they play on the radio these days.
It's all for them...

Nas is telling the truth. Today's videos may not be as blatant as the Nick Cannon video, but they damn sure parallel it. Defenders of this intentional ignorance always use the generational disconnect as an excuse. They say that it's the same as older generations disagreeing with hip hop all together, but I beg the differ. During the birth of hip hop older people didn't accuse rappers of glorifying ignorance. Older generations didn't have a problem with rap until the genesis of gangsta rap. In 1992 the number one record played on the radio was Public Enemy's Fight the Power. In 2008 the number one record played on the radio was Little Wayne's Lollipop. This drastic change in hip hop's content isn't an accident or coincidence, it was intentional. If anyone doesn't believe what I'm saying check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV4mhxpaEmk&feature=PlayList&p=EFFE6672F0B3DEFE&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=29
