Oprah Winfrey and Doctor Oz have filed a lawsuit against more than 30 companies for frauduently using their names to co-sign and promote their products. SMH. Peep game….

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Oprah Winfrey’s company and a Columbia University Medical Center doctor sued more than 30 companies that make dietary supplements, colon cleansers and other products on Wednesday, alleging the products are being sold under the false premise they are tested or recommended by Winfrey or the doctor.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Wednesday, claims the companies are fabricating quotes or falsely purporting to speak in the voice of Dr. Mehmet Oz or Winfrey about brands and products that neither has endorsed.
Oz, director of Columbia University Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Institute, has been a frequent guest on Winfrey’s show. The lawsuit was filed by Harpo Inc., Winfrey’s company, and Oz.
“Plaintiffs seek to stop the unauthorized and unlawful use of Dr. Oz’s and Ms. Winfrey’s names, pictures, voices and identities,” the lawsuit said.
The infringing products include dietary supplements, colon cleansers, anti-wrinkle creams and tooth-whiting products, according to the complaint.
Many of the offers turn out to be credit-card scams or other fraudulent schemes, such as charging for free trials or monthly subscriptions to products without consumers having agreed to those subscriptions, according to the lawsuit.
