Former Vibe Editor In Chief Danyel Smith Lands New Job

The woman you see before you who is all in Jamie Foxx’ grill piece is none other than former Vibe Editor-In-Chief, Danyel Smith. We are all aware of VIBE’s collapse but she has secured a new job…..peep game

Former Editor-in-Chief of Vibe Magazine Danyel Smith was named this morning as theRoot’s Executive Editor reports the NYTimes.
“I’m overjoyed to join THE ROOT,” said Smith. “I’m honored to join a site that has become, in such a short time, a critical voice for issues that matter to the African-American community.”
She is replacing Lynette Clemetson who was the Managing Editor of theRoot up until June when she accepted the Knight-Wallace Fellowship at The University of Michigan. Danyel will have day-to-day responsibility for theRoot and will begin tomorrow September 9th. Henry Louis Gates will remain as the Editor-in-Chief. Danyel will report to Donna Byrd the site’s current Publisher who notes her background is a compliment to theRoot’s new phase:
“Her shrewd understanding of today’s most critical social issues coupled with her background of running a site and magazine is precisely what we were looking for in an executive editor to help guide us through our second phase of growth.”
Danyel joins deputy editor Terence Samuel and will be based in both Washington D.C. and New York.
