Lebron James: “Next Year I Will No Longer Wear #23 Out of Respect To Michael Jordan”

Posted by Media Outrage on November 13, 2009

Lebron f1

Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers put the smack down on D Wade’s Miami Heat in Miami last night during a very entertaining game which saw both stars shine very bright while putting on shows.  Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Penny Hardaway and other greats were in the building watching the two young players spar.  Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls Jersey was hung from the rafters in Miami which is interesting since he played for the Bulls.  People everywhere acknowledge Jordan as the greatest player to ever play the game.  Lebron had something to say about that after the game:

“In honor of Michael Jordan, I will no longer wear number 23 as of next year.  He’s the greatest and I think his number should be retired throughout the NBA.  I will probably wear my lucky number which is 6.”

Mediaoutrage-  Interesting.  Kudos to Bron for showing such respect to the greatest.

Its almost 2010 and all of the black men with money mak me scratch my fuckin head, they dont make sense at all. I thought wearing a person’s number was how you show your respect for a person. Pretty soon one of these stupid asses will come up with the concept of “well I kiss men because I Love women so much, I kiss men out of respect for women”

Damn it’s been a minute MO. They got me slaving at the job like my first and last name is Jethro.

That’s hot of Lebron to show Mike that type of respect. I seen the games last night and I agree %100 that Jordan’s #23 should be retired and forbidden for any other player to ever wear again. The dude has done so much for the NBA and like Bron said last night, Jerry West is the symbol of the NBA which should be changed to Jordan so you gotta give mike that type of respect.

2020 i think it’s more respectful of Bron to change his number because just like the Bulls retired #23 so no other person can come and get their shine on in it then the league should do the same.

@ Marathon_Man: its a number that a person wore while in the lucrative slave trade of proffessional sports. I dont know man I, It seeems like worshiping a man to me and I was not raised to not worship anything or anyone on earth. Its a number, Jordan was a great Basketball Player but I reserve giving respect to great people and Jordan is far from a great person ©

I’m down w/ LB but this is fucking stupid.
I am sick of players changing their numbers to boost jersey sales.

I dig it 2020 but if Jordan can’t be the NBA logo then he deserves to have his number retired from the league. The man did a lot for the NBA and sports in general. Great ones come along one in a million years like Ali, Jordan, Tiger. So I understand the recognition. I just look at it as paying hommage.

Marathon_Man, we cam pay hommage but the worshiping cant be encouraged or tolerated. ©

This is a good move by Lebron he is the best player in the league right now and to honor Jordan this way is cool. Some of the skeptics are saying other things but Lebron is always going to have haters because he has lived up to the hype and for some reason people don’t like that. There are a lot of people that if they love Kobe they hate Lebron. I don’t understand that.
