Magic Johnson Weighs In On LeBron’s Decision To Go To Miami And Form Super Team With Dwyane Wade

Posted by Media Outrage on July 21st, 2010

Magic Johnson is the latest NBA great to express his opinion on LeBron’s move to Miami to play with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  His thoughts after the jump….

Add Magic Johnson’s voice to fellow Hall of Famer Michael Jordan’s: Neither ever thought of combining forces the way LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh did earlier this month with the Miami Heat.

“We didn’t think about it ’cause that’s not what we were about,” Johnson said at Baruch College in New York, according to Bloomberg News. “From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird.”

This past weekend, Jordan said at a celebrity golf event that he never would have played with Johnson or Bird, his two main rivals during his playing days.

“There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, ‘Hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team,’” Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. The interview aired on the NBC telecast of the event. “But that’s … things are different. I can’t say that’s a bad thing. It’s an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.”

Johnson added on Tuesday: “It was never a question in our mind because nobody has ever done that.”

Wade re-signed with Miami, while James and Bosh joined the Heat via free agency earlier this month.

I really dont understand the big hoopla behind him moving…he stayed with Cleveland for 7years right? and they did not win…There are plenty of teams that have more than one great player on the team and if them three can win a ring together why not? I am excited to see Lebron play for Miami and I hope that he will be happy there and I can’t wait to see him, Wade and Bosh win the championship for the 2010-2011 NBA season…its going to be wonderful…cant wait for the 40daze and 40 nights…Kobe get ready to have a seat :)

I agree. Lebron lived up tp his contract and should be free to choose where he works/lives. I just wish he had came to the Wizards!

I don’t remember reading anything that said Lebron called up either teammate and said “let’s join forces”

I thought it was Pat Riley that brokered that deal.

At any rate I am tired of reading every bodies opinion… As tupac said “everybody open they mouth with a motherfuckin opinion”

These old dogs can sit on senior citizens steps and say what they want, just don’t miss taking that ex-lax and drinking prune juice to stay regular.

who said there was one way to win a championship? who said there was only one way to be great ? Nobody said shit when Garnett , Allen, Pierce and all of them came together in Boston. All the great ones , with all due respect, should shut the fuck up. This season will be the best season in a looooooooong time…. KOBE,FISHER,GASOL VS. WADE,JAMES,&BOSH, L.A. vs Miami, EAST vs. WEST…..I think we’ll witness the beginning of a new REAL rivalry….

I am probably LBJ’s biggest fans and all this talk about him going to miami is really getting on my fucking nerves!!!! I know he’s the BEST in the league, and everyone expects him to win it all by himself, eventhough he took them to finals by himself, no one has won it all by themselves…not even mj!!! the closest thing to this was dwade back in 06! it takes 2-3 star players to do this and thats nothing new…its been like this forever…so whats the fucking problem now???!!! no one said anything when kg, allen, and pierce hooked up…no one said anything when gasol and artest joined kobe! i think everyone is scared cause there are 3 beasts in south beach that’s about to tear the league up!!! oh well, yall will be alright!
