Woman Sentenced To 3 Years In Prison For Faking Breast Cancer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A judge sentenced a Chattanooga woman to 42 months in prison for faking breast cancer and told her it was “reprehensible” that she took donations of sick leave, money and cancer patient support services for five years.
“It seems like to me some confinement is necessary,” Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Don Poole said Monday after a four-hour hearing in which attorneys for 39-year-old Keele Maynor asked for a probation sentence that would allow her to work and pay about $54,000 in restitution.
Poole added 10 years of probation to the sentence for Maynor, a mother of three, and ordered her taken into custody immediately. She will be eligible for parole after serving one-third of the prison sentence. He ordered her to start making $300 monthly restitution payments after her release.
“I have problems with somebody who shaves their head and says they have cancer,” Poole said.
Maynor cried at times while testifying that she is sorry for “hurting so many people.” Maynor said she had felt unloved and carried out the terminal cancer scheme to get attention. She described herself a victim of emotional abuse as a teenager by her mother and sexual abuse by a stepbrother.
“I will spend the rest of my life trying to make my wrong right,” she said.
Assistant District Attorney Neal Pinkston said the prison time was justified in Maynor’s case that duped co-workers, friends, groups such as Breast Cancer Network of Strength, a church and high school football booster club.
Maynor in 2008 said in an e-mail when she left her job in the city’s regional planning department that her claim of having cancer was a “charade.” She pleaded guilty to theft and forgery as part of a deal with prosecutors.
The charade included Maynor getting more than $4,000 from a silent auction at a “black and pink” benefit that was held on her behalf. Maynor said she spent that money on Christmaspresents for her children.
Sandra Hughes testified that she worked side by side with Maynor before retiring and helped raise money for her, including a bank account that Maynor could draw money from “whenever she needed to pay a bill.”
“She would inform me if there were needs, financial needs ” said Hughes, a breast cancer survivor who walked across the courtroom to Maynor and hugged her after testifying.

Well i do, that was some dirty fucking shit she did, i dont give a damn what she been thru in her fucking past! there are millions of people who been thru some crazy shit in life and manage to turn their life positive without anger and bitterness, she was just a greedy fucking bitch! and she deserve more years than that, if i was the judge she would of gotten more! how dare she use something like that, people are sick and dying from cancer an suffering, this bitch walking around collecting money and spending on material shit! I am fucking disgusted! lock her punk ass up!

Same thing i said!!! I play alotttttttt, but not when it comes to my HEALTH! When all else fails and i’m having those ‘moments’, my health is the one thing i always give praise for, that’s why i’m convinced that something is wrong with her ‘up there’ or she is just sleazy-as-hell!!!

QUESTION: Did this lady undergo MENTAL ASSESSMENT?
I don’t know how i feel about someone “faking cancer” and worst yet PROFITING from it, but something in me feels as if THREE years is TOO much, if necessary at all. I think the probationary sentence along with financial restitution was just. Does she have any priors? Plus she is a mother of three – who will take care of her kids? It is important to know what she REALLY did with that money (buy food/clothes for her kids or shop for herself) to make a proper assessment and if she is mentally well.
A lady did the same to me, talking about she wanted shoes for her kids, i told her i just donated to the local church, so she needs to revisit in about a month, feeling guilty, i hurriedly went through the back door to see if i could call her, to give her something else, only to notice her at my neighbor’s house. She was saying something which was very indistinct so i went to the bathroom and opened the window, i now see, she has a jar – a medical jar in her hands and i could hear her asking for money for her mother’s medication, i was FLOORED, i couldn’t believe people could be so cruel, to plead on behalf of her kids and beseech on behalf of her mother’s ill health? I was through [smh]. I later found out she was a crack addict and simply wanted the money for her next fix. HOW SAD!
