Philadelphia is out of control ya’ll! There were 33 shooting last weekend in which 9 people were killed.
It’s summertime, but the living is far from easy in Philadelphia, where 33 people were shot during the first weekend of the season, police said.
“I don’t know if we’ve had any more [shootings] over a three-day period,” said Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. “This certainly ranks right at the top.”
The bloodshed began at 4:44 p.m. Friday and continued until 9 p.m. Sunday. Of the 33 shootings, five were fatal and one was a suicide, police said.
Homicide Capt. James Clark said the killing of Nyeme Taylor, 30, on Sunday night at an unauthorized street party at 33rd and Diamond streets was the result of Taylor’s urging his 14-year-old son to fight five men.
Clark said the men had jumped the boy, and he had run to get his father. Taylor told the men that his son would fight each of them, Clark said. When the men jumped the boy again, Taylor tried to pull them off, and one of the attackers pulled a gun and fired, police said. Taylor was killed, and his daughter, 15, and two other girls, ages 10 and 6, were injured.
Another multiple shooting happened at the Genesis bar in Nicetown early Sunday when a patron ejected for smoking came back and fired 11 shots into the bar, killing Carl Sharper, 43, and injuring five other people, cops said.
