Alonzo Mourning was cited by police for leaving the scene of an accident in Miami:
Florida authorities cited former NBA player Alonzo Mourning on Monday with leaving the scene of a car crash that occurred as he was driving home from Miami Heat star Chris Bosh’s wedding.
Mourning had played for the Heat. His 2010 Porsche Panamera S struck a car blocking a Miami Beach roadway as the result of a prior collision early on July 17, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sergeant Thomas Pikul.
No one was in the car Mourning hit, and the crash was deemed “an unavoidable accident,” Pikul said. Mourning checked on the people from the first crash, left the scene and then called authorities to say he had been involved in a collision.
He returned after being advised to do so and provided a statement, Pikul said.
The highway patrol charged Mourning, 41, with a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, which carries a mandatory court appearance. He also received a related civil citation.
“If he had stayed, this wouldn’t have been an issue,” Pikul told Reuters. “He would have a crash report, and he would have been on his way.”
Alcohol was not a factor in either crash, Pikul said.
