2-time-NBA World Champion Dwyane Wade will undergo knee surgery this summer and will therefore miss the 2012 Olympics held in London.
MIAMI (AP) — Dwyane Wade needs surgery on his left knee and will miss the London Olympics.
The Miami Heat guard called USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski on Thursday and let them know that he is not healthy enough to participate in the Olympics. Wade was playing through pain for much of the postseason, yet still averaged 22.6 points during Miami’s five-game win over Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.
Wade tells The Associated Press that the situation is disappointing. Wade and his doctors are in the process of scheduling the surgery.
Wade was the leading scorer on the team that won Olympic gold in Beijing four years ago. He also played for the U.S. on the squad that won bronze at Athens in 2004.
MediaOutrage- Well it’s way more important that he get the surgery out of the way before the Heat embark on a journey of defending their NBA title. Good move D Wade. It was clear he was not himself during this playoff run, even though he had lots of flashes of offensive and defensive brilliance, their quest to this title would have been more decided had he been up to full strength and without injury.
