Eagles coach Andy Reid’s oldest son Garrett was found dead this morning….
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead Sunday morning in his room at training camp at Lehigh University.
The Eagles held Sunday morning’s practice, but Andy Reid wasn’t present. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told reporters that Reid asked the team to go forward with training camp.
“I have some heartbreaking news to share with you all,” an emotional Roseman said in a press conference that was streamed on the team’s web site. “It is with great sadness that I tell you Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Coach Reid, was found dead this morning in his room here at training camp. This is a tough morning for all us.”
“He’s always been strong for us, we’re going to be strong for him right now,” Roseman said of coach Andy Reid.
Edward Schupp, chief of police at Lehigh, said a 911 call was made at 7:20 a.m. Schupp said Garrett Reid was deceased upon a policeman’s arrival at the campus dormitory.
“Upon arrival attempts were made to revive the individual,” Shupp said. “They were unsuccessful. … There were no suspicious activities.”
Players gathered for a team prayer before the walkthrough began, and were told not to speak to reporters afterward.
Garrett Reid was at the team’s training camp to assist the strength coaches.
