Al Green Turned Down The Opportunity To Sing “Let’s Stay Together” For The President
Posted by Media Outrage on January 23rd, 2013
Al Green turned down the opportunity to sing “Let’s Stay Together” for the President’s Inaugural Ball.
Find out what he was on why
Al Green says if things had worked out, it would have been him serenading President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle at the inaugural ball.
Jennifer Hudson sang Green’s classic “Let’s Stay Together,” leaving many to wonder why the soul legend wasn’t singing his own hit for the first couple.
In a statement to The Associated Press, his representative said Green had been asked to sing, but scheduling conflicts prevented him from attending Monday’s festivities. Green said he’d be honored to sing for the president in the future.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Obama famously sang a snippet of the song at an event last year that Green attended.
Mediaoutrage- The Presidential Inauguration is something you clear your entire schedule for! What is he on?!? We want some

Lol why would u turn down the presidential inauguration unless u had a close family member’s funeral to attend that day? The exposure alone is worth it not to mention the immediate spike in record sells sure to follow.

I already answered….MONEY. And ask J Hud if those sells done spiked. Lol Al is older than dirt. I’m sure it would have been an honor but again he obviously needs the mula. And who know if he had a contract going for whereever he was performing. He probably would have been sued. And again, proud of the President, but he’s not paying bills, sorry. That’s how I feel. Al is a legend already, what exposure does he need?

I feel u on if he was under contract to perform but you can google when Obama sang his song at one of his speeches that it helped Al Green’s record sales….I read thst. Thats the largest stage u can perform on and its not like anyone is beating down al’s door to perform. U push all aside for the president.

I thought the same thing when i saw her singing the song, although she has a beautiful voice, but she did it no justice, I would have rather hear the original man sing that song, I wish he would of came out and sang that song, that would of set the whole thing off just right! and sometimes its not about the pay, it would of been the honor of it. To bad he didnt.
