Oprah Winfrey spent her 59th birthday in bed after straining her back trying to pick up a present from moviemaker pal Tyler Perry.
The TV talk show queen celebrated her big day on Tuesday and was inundated with gifts, including a huge floral arrangement from Perry.
But the director’s rose bouquet ended up giving Winfrey more pain than pleasure after she sprained her back leaning over to pick it up.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, Winfrey explains, “In bed with an ice pack most of today. Moved a bushel of roses sent by Tyler Perry and sprained a back muscle.”
Perry took to his Facebook.com page to offer an apology, writing, “I feel so bad. I like to send really large flower arrangements to people for whatever occasion. Well, I sent one to Oprah yesterday for her birthday. She strained her back picking it up. No joke! Feel better Oprah. Happy birthday. Sorry. Next year I’m sending her one rose.”
Winfrey appeared to be on the mend on Wednesday – she tweeted, “Beautiful birthday. Thanks All!” and posted a photo of her posing in a room filled with cards and bouquets.
