Angela Bassett was turning plenty of heads over the weekend during The Festival of Arts/Pageant of The Masters 2009 Gala Benefit held in Laguna Beach, CA. The very beautiful and talented, Angela Bassett, was in full sexy mode yesterday at the Beverly Hills Hotel, for the “Mandela Day” awareness event. Plenty of familiar faces came out to support and enjoy the festivities. Jurnee Smollett, Isaiah Washington and wife Jenisa Marie, Quincy Jones (King of the Young Jawns), Alfre Woodard, Morgan Freeman, Viola Davis, Forest and Keisha Whitaker along with their daughter Sonnet. Victoria Rowell, Christine Johnson (Magic Johnson’s mother) and Cookie Johnson (Magic’s wife) were in Long Beach, CA for the Rowell Foster Children’s Positive Plan Admiral’s High Tea and Sea. Angela Bassett, Lalah Hathaway and Norwood Young were also in attendance.

Cookie Johnson, was accompanied by her loving family, Angela Bassett and Denzel’s wife, Pauletta, to Nordstrom in Los Angeles on Saturday for the launch of her new denim line CJ. It looks like everyone had a ball. We’re assuming these jeans will accommodate the full-figured curvaceous sistas, being that Cookie, Pauletta and Angela Bassett are all thick women. Magic posed for pictures with his son EJ, and daughter Elise. We can’t figure out which parent Elise looks like.

The Image Awards kicked off last night in LA. Will Smith, Taraji Henson, Diddy and a few others were recipients. Beyonce performed. Halle Berry looked completely amazing.

Everyone’s favorite social butterfly Gabrielle Union looked nice and fly at the 3rd Annual Sheldon Epps Theatrical Diversity Project Celebration at the Pasadena Playhouse in guess where…yep Pasadena, (y’all silly) CA. Angela Bassett and husband Courtney B. Vance also attended the event. Now Angela is someone who really gets busy on the big screen. Her acting skills are beyond reproach.

Voletta Wallace posed for pictures with everyone who showed support for the premiere of her son’s (Christopher Wallace) biopic. She and Jigga took a very special picture together. Jay has continued to keep Biggie’s name alive in all of his music. How many of you will be going to see the movie? Christopher Wallace aka Notorious B.I.G.’s mother Volleta Wallace spoke with Essence about the upcoming movie Notorious.

ESSENCE.COM: We are excited about “Notorious.” What was your first impression when you saw Jamal Woodard, who plays your son?
VOLETTA WALLACE: When he walked into the room, his whole demeanor was Christopher and I knew. I was in the corner and he never saw me and I said, “That’s my son there.” The director told me that Jamal had never acted before. They would have to work really hard and there were so many other actors. I said, “Nope, that’s him.” There were days I had goose bumps just watching him. I was always close to my son and now I’m close with Jamal for the respect that he had for my son. Believe me, to fill Christopher’s shoes wasn’t easy. That’s a size 13. Read the rest of this entry »
