It doesn’t take much for Gabrielle Union to get fly…so with that being said, that’s exactly what she did for her cover shoot with Ocean Drive magazine. Gabby is on the February 2012 cover issue.

On getting sick when she’s away from Miami:
“A week away is pretty much it for me. When I land in Miami, I feel like I’ve been holding my breath and am finally exhaling. I can breathe. I feel accepted, welcomed. I feel like I can be my true self, the woman I always aspired to be… More in Miami than any other place.”

On keeping her house in California:
“[It has been] great because I have my own career and life elsewhere, I have a home I paid for with my own money, and I need to be able to nurture that as well.”

On life with Dwyane Wade in Miami:
“D and I have a life together, too. I love my life in Miami, I can’t imagine functioning without both, I love the design district, I love Midtown, I love what’s happening downtown now. I can be at People’s Bar-B-Que or Sustain or Prime One Twelve, and I’m comfortable. It’s rare for me to feel that level of freedom. Miami represents joy for me.”

On seeing a more diversely cast group of lead actresses:
“It’s great for the other groups that are getting a chance to play more roles, and ideally, I’d like to think there were enough roles for everyone. But we are trying to get [filmmakers and producers] to consider that the doctor, a lawyer, even the lead could be an African-American woman.”

On her career:
“I’ve been lucky; for the past year, I haven’t really auditioned for anything; the parts I got were straight-up offers. I’m not so grand that I wouldn’t audition. In fact, I wish I could audition more. There are a lot of people who won’t give me a chance because I was in ‘Bring It On’ one thousand years ago. They don’t think I can be more than that sassy sidekick. I guess they didn’t see ‘Cadillac Records’ or ‘Neo Ned.’”

On starting a family:
“I was never someone who thought about having kids – I mean, they’re great in theory, but I never imagined having one [myself]. Maybe over the next five years I could wrap my brain around becoming a mother and what that would mean in terms of sacrifice and dedication. I don’t do anything impulsively, so more toward the five years out than the one-year.”

First Lady Michelle Obama and Gabrielle Union were in D.C. this weekend as were a few other familiar faces for the 2012 BET Honors Awards dinner. Both ladies looked stunning if we must say.

Don’t tell us Money doesn’t persuade the masses including celebrities who already have more than enough of it. Gabrielle Union says for the right price she and Dwyane Wade would consider saying “I Do” on TV:

In the February issue of Essence, loves of nearly three years Union and Dwayne Wade talk candidly about their views on marriage — and why Union may be headed to reality TV.

“We’re not rushing it,” Wade, a 29-year-old NBA player, says. “Both of us have been married before, and we understand that if we choose to marry again, we want it to be right.”

(Wade has two sons, Zaire, 9, and Zion, 3, with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches; Union was wed to NFL player Chris Howard from 2001-2006.)

“We both took failing at marriage hard,” Wade explains. “The next time it’s gotta be forever.”

Union, who next stars in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, echoes her boyfriend’s sentiments. “When it happens, it’s going to be something that only our friends and family know about,” the 39-year-old actress tells Essence. “That is, unless the E! Network comes up with the right number, of course.”

Awe shiggity

LeBron James got engaged to longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson last night in Miami during an intimate dinner with family and friends:

It was a New Years Eve dinner and celebrations for King James 27th Birthday last night, however it was Lebron’s long-time girlfriend Savannah who walked away with the biggest gift.  An engagement ring!

Party guests that included Queen Latifah, Sanaa Lathan, Jessica White, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade and more watched in awe as Lebron dropped to one knee and asked Savannah for her hand in marriage just after midnight  There was no doubt that she would say ‘Yes’ and she did with a few tears. Savannah and Lebron have been dating since she was 16 and have two kids together; Lebron Jr (7) and Bryce (4). It’s about time he put a ring on it! 

Later, they finished off the night by the Shelborne pool where Nas and Lauryn Hill treated guests to a performance of ‘If I Ruled The World’.

Meanwhile, they were showered with congratulatory tweets from celebrity friends Chris Paul, Monica Brown, Lala & Carmelo Anthony, and Heat General Partner Micky Arison throughout the night.  Check out the tweets and more pics below
