Michael Vick is still trying to figure out and fit into the Philadelphia Eagles offense.

While being really, really careful not to say anything that would make waves, Philadelphia Eagles “quarterback” Michael Vick said yesterday that he’s not thrilled about his role in the Philadelphia offense. He doesn’t dig the Wildcat, and if it’s up to him, he won’t be doing it next year.

“It would be hard,” Vick said of returning to the Eagles, according to excerpts released by NBC. “It would be an everyday struggle. But I would have to take that time to hone my skills and get better. I’m excited about the opportunity I have moving forward whether it’s with Philadelphia or another team.” [...]

“I won’t be a Wildcat guy. I can’t,” Vick told NBC. “It’s a different style of play. It’s almost like a hit-or-miss type of thing. My position is quarterback. That’s what I was born to do.”

What he does next year isn’t really up to Vick, though. The Eagles have the option to keep him around next year for $3.6 million, though it’s got to be seen as unlikely that the Eagles would pay that much for a guy whose only function seems to be to prevent the offensive from functioning smoothly or with any rhythm.

Not that that’s Vick’s fault, mind you. That coach Andy Reid brings him to stall the offense periodically is Andy Reid’s decision. Maybe Vick can’t make plays anymore … maybe he can’t throw or run. If that is the case, though, might I present this crazy idea to Andy Reid: Stop putting Vick in the game.

Again, Vick wouldn’t talk about specifics for next season, and just reiterated that he wants to help the Eagles win a championship. Tony Dungy wasn’t shy about talking about potential future Vick destinations, though.

“I told Michael to just worry about this year,” [Dungy] said. “It’s technically up to Philadelphia. If they want him back, he has to stay there. If they don’t, there are some teams looking for quarterbacks: Cleveland, St. Louis and Washington.

“But I think a dark horse is Buffalo. They talked originally. There was some communication there. I think that could be a good spot.”

Buffalo. Interesting. The Bills did pretty much admit that they signed Terrell Owens for the “wow” factor, to increase their profile and make a splash with the media. Vick would certainly do that.

But it’s way too early to be thinking about that. Except for Cleveland. Michael Vick, Dawg Pound … we probably don’t want to do that.

Things are looking on the up-and-up for Mike Vick, as it is being reported that he has signed back with Nike.

NEW YORK — Michael Vick is back with Nike two years after the company severed ties over the quarterback’s involvement in a dogfighting ring.

“Mike has a long-standing, great relationship with Nike, and he looks forward to continuing that relationship,” his agent, Joel Segal, said Wednesday.

Segal would not reveal terms of the agreement. Nike, however, denied it had signed Vick to a sponsorship contract in a statement released to CNBC.

“Nike does not have a contractual relationship with Michael Vick,” Nike spokesman Kejuan Wilkins said in the statement to CNBC. “We have agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike.”

The supposed deal was announced during a panel discussion at the Sports Sponsorship Symposium by Michael Principe, the managing director of BEST, the agency that represents Vick.

Mike Vick has every intention of returning to the NFL as soon as his debt to society has been paid in full.  He also already has a certain dollar figure in mind that teams should pay very close attention to.

I don’t know what kind of access Michael Vick has had to newspapers, magazines and the Internet in prison, but it seems like the news that he is no longer a hot commodity has not yet filtered down to Michael Vick.

In papers he submitted to a bankruptcy court, Vick indicated that he plans on making $10 million per season, which I’m pretty sure would be a record for an ex-con who had a career quarterback rating of 75.7 when he went away. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale. [...]

In a March 4 court filing, Vick’s attorneys say he “has every reason to believe upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL, resume his career and be able to earn a substantial living.”

“He is hopeful to play quarterback,” Daniel Meachum, an attorney and business manager for Vick, said in an interview. “There is no person with his talent in that position in all the league.”

Mediaoutrage- With that kind of request he’ll probably get a contract with a neatly traced MIDDLE FINGER on it.

It seems that Mike Vick will have a future in the NFL after all. Atlanta Falcons General Manager is seeking to trade the star quarterback.

Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff said Friday the Falcons will try to trade the contract rights on Michael Vick to another team.

In an interview that appeared on the team’s Web site, Dimitroff said, “With regards to Michael Vick, we’ve decided to seek a trade of his contractual rights to another NFL club.”

Vick is currently in federal prison on felony charges related to dogfighting and is scheduled to be released in July.

Vick has a contract that runs to 2013 and calls for him to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract is worth $45.11 million, with another possible $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses.

“We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it’s also in the best interest for Michael,” Dimitroff said. “This has been a really unique situation from a variety of standpoints and because we will actively be involved in a trade situation, I don’t envision our organization speaking any more about this subject publicly until it’s reached a resolution.”

He said the Falcons have had no discussions with other teams because Vick is under suspension by the NFL, “but we think some teams might be interested in exploring a trade.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello Friday reiterated commissioner Roger Goodell’s statement when he suspended Vick on Aug. 24 2007 that he will review Vick’s status when legal proceedings are done.

Vick’s attorneys did not immediately return e-mail or telephone messages left at their offices.

Dimitroff said if the Falcons are unable to complete a trade, they will re-evaluate. He said a decision would be made that is in the best interest of the team.

The Falcons made a move last year for a quarterback, taking Boston College’s Matt Ryan as their first round draft choice. He was last year’s rookie of the year after leading the Falcons to the playoffs.

Mike Vick entered a guilty plea in the state of Virginia to dog fighting charges.

SUSSEX, Va. – Former NFL star quarterback Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to a state dogfighting charge in Virginia in a bid to make him eligible for early release from jail.

The 28-year-old Vick pleaded guilty to one charge and not guilty to a second count involving torturing or killing animals. The second count was dropped.

Vick was given a three-year suspended sentence. The plea could potentially speed his return to the NFL.

Federal law prohibits prisoners from being released to a halfway house if there are unresolved charges pending.

Vick was expressionless throughout the brief hearing. He told the judge he apologized to his family and to children who looked up to him as a role model.

Despite the fact that Mike Vick is sitting in a prison cell for fighting dogs, and, Gov. of Alaska, Sarah Palin kills mooses but is running for VP of this country things still have an upside. All Vick has to do is hold on for a little while longer and he’ll have his freedom and a possible return to the NFL. At an NFL owners meeting Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said he would support a return to the league for Vick.

“He’s written me and I’ve answered him,” Blank said. “I certainly wish Michael well in the future. I believe in second chances. I believe in third chances. That doesn’t mean I believe in forever chances. But I do believe he’s capable of redemption and learning from his mistakes.”

When asked if Vick would return to the Falcons, Blank began with a generic answer and then switched to a very strong tone. “I’ll say this to you when I answer the question as fully as I can,” Blank said. “From my perspective, people use the expression ‘we’ve turned the page,’ and we’ve turned the page, turned the chapter and closed the book. We’ve moved on and we have a franchise quarterback.”

“We’re committed to Matt Ryan,” Blank said. “Even before his early success, we were committed to Matt Ryan. We made that decision when we drafted him. When you select someone in the draft at that level and pay him what we’re paying him, you expect him to be successful and you expect him to be a team leader.”

But Blank said he would support Vick’s return elsewhere in the NFL. “Michael could be great for young people in the community to see a fellow who obviously made a series of very bad mistakes — not just by who you spend time with, but to learn from those personally if he can get on with his life and be successful,” Blank said. “I’d like to see it happen for him and for America and the National Football League. Whether or not that happens, we’ll have to wait and see, but I certainly would support that.”

When Vick is released from prison, the league could take separate disciplinary action and suspend him. But if Vick completes his sentence, Blank said he would speak to commissioner Roger Goodell and ask him to allow the quarterback to be reinstated into the league.

“I certainly would,” Blank said. “If I thought that Michael had redeemed himself and if Roger asked me what I felt, based on my knowledge and my own sensitivity about Michael, I certainly would be supportive of him, because I think he would have paid his debt to society. He made a mistake, he made a series of mistakes, but he’s been through the legal process and is paying his debt. Once that’s done, he’s entitled to move on with his life again. “If he’s successful, I think he could be an important role model in a positive way for young folks who face difficult decisions to make the right decisions,” he said.

That title might be a little misleading but we’re just saying though… According to TMZ some guy became the new owner of a lot of Mike Vick’s valuables for a measly $10.

Vick pulled the ol’ “Paris Hilton” by leaving a bunch of his stuff in a storage locker that hadn’t been paid for. The contents of the locker, stocked with all sorts of Vick’s personal goodies, eventually went on the auction block. Since only five people showed up to the sale, a dude named Edward Howard says he was able to obtain the treasure trove of obscurities for a whopping ten bucks.

Now, Howard says he’s already made a few hundred bucks selling off some of Vick’s bedroom furniture and clothes on a street corner just a few days ago.

What Howard won’t sell are pictures of Vick with his first-born son Mitez, a signed football Mike gave the kid, and other baby memorabilia. Howard says he’d like to meet Vick some day to hand over the stuff personally.

Former Falcons QB Michael Vick is reportedly losing $12,000 a month. With that said this opportunity has to look real attractive to him right now.

Michael Vick is losing nearly $12,000 a month according to court documents filed Tuesday in his bankruptcy case.

Vick’s Schedule of Assets and Liabilities, admittedly incomplete, were filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Wednesday. In the documents the imprisoned Falcons quarterback lists average monthly expenses of $12,225 and a monthly income of just $277.69. The difference is $11,947.31. Vick’s monthly income is solely derived from a benefit pension plan and does not include the wages of 12 cents per hour he earns working in prison.

Vick, serving a 23-month federal prison sentence on felony charges related to dogfighting, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.

Vick lists total assets of just over $10 million. He also lists nearly $19 million is liabilities, which includes claims, some disputed, against him by creditors.

Four houses, three in Virginia and one in Georgia, are listed as real property with a value of $6.4 million. Vick lists known personal property assets of $3.5 million.

Despite the fact that Mike Vick is currently serving time behind bars for his role in the dog fighting ring he is still being sought to play football again once released.

Michael Huyghue, the commissioner of the upstart United Football League, which plans to start play in 2009, is chomping at the big to throw millions at Vick. He sees Vick as the star attraction of his soon-to-be fledgling league.

The big news, I suppose, from my talk with Huyghue was this: He said the chances of a UFL team signing Michael Vick to play the 2009 season are “98 percent.” Strange percentage, but that’s what he said.

“Michael’s not going to be able to walk right back into the NFL,” Huyghue said. “He’s going to need some kind of buffer before he signs in the NFL, and we’ll be able to provide that for him.”

don’t know if Vick’s going to need a buffer or not, but he is going to need cash. And I can’t see any NFL team giving him more than the veteran’s minimum, whereas the UFL could conceivably pay him in the neighborhood of $4 million a year. The prestige of being an NFL player is nice, but not being broke is probably a higher priority.

And it would be completely worth it for the UFL, too, even if Vick is never the player he once was. The attention and curiosity he’ll generate is something they won’t be able to get from any other player, I don’t care who they pluck off an NFL roster.
