Jay Leno's staff fired!

Posted by Media Outrage on 1st December 2007

Leno

A couple of days after the Writers Guild of America strike began November 5, Jay Leno told some 80 of his idled staffers that they need not worry about their finances.

Leno was so adamant about paychecks being safe, many didn’t bother looking for new jobs even though NBC was forecasting layoffs.

So it came as quite a shock Friday when the entire staff was told that they were not only out of a job but also that they weren’t guaranteed of being rehired once “The Tonight Show” returns.

“Some people were crying. Some people were screaming,” said one employee speaking on condition of anonymity.

NBC declined comment on the firings beyond a brief statement that it had “regretfully informed the people who work on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ and ‘Late Night With Conan O’Brien’ that their services are not needed at this time due to our inability to continue production of the shows.”

According to several staffers, tensions at “Tonight Show” have been mounting for weeks, and matters weren’t helped by news that other late-night hosts have been preserving the jobs of their nonwriting staffs or paying those who had been laid off. O’Brien confirmed Thursday, for example, that he would pay the salaries of at least 50 nonwriting “Late Night” staffers out of his own pocket on a week-to-week basis.

Some “Tonight Show” insiders are angry at Leno, because of an upbeat conference call he held shortly after the WGA strike began.

“He was on speaker phone,” a staffer said. “There were 80 of us. He told us not to panic. He said to trust him. He said: ‘I can’t get into details, but nobody will miss a car payment or lose their house. We’re family. Trust me. I’m going to take care of this.’ But that was the time we should have been looking for new jobs.”

Dag Jay Leno..well it was probably out of his control and his pockets were probably starting to dwindle and we can’t have that now can we? If we are both on a boat and you falling off but holding onto me should i let you just pull me off and kill us both??? H to the NO!  But messed up for the people who lost their jobs.

Strike is costing Jay Leno and Dave Letterman $100,000 a day!!!

Jay Leno and Dave Letterman

Via Usmagazine

“The writers’ strike is no laughing matter for Jay Leno and David Letterman — especially when it comes to their wallets.

It is costing the late night talk show hosts a reported $100,000 a night.

Leno, 57, and Letterman, 60, have not received a paycheck from their networks — NBC and CBS, respectively — since the strike started November 5, New York Post quotes TV industry sources as saying. In the first nine days of the strike, they have each lost a total of more than $700,000, according to the Post. (They are not paid on the weekends.)

Leno, host of The Tonight Show, earns around $27 million a year, while Letterman, host of Late Show with David Letterman, rakes in a reported $31.5 million.

Letterman is continuing to pay his production staff, the Post reports, though it remains unclear how long that will continue. Meanwhile, NBC officials said they may layoff non-writing staffers by the end of the week.”

That’s real money right there….

Jay Leno Will Leave The Tonight Show As Planned.

Posted by Media Outrage on 30th October 2007

Leno

Yes the man with a 1,000 chins will retire from his 15 years of hosting the “Tonight Show” in 2009, at which time Conan O’Brien will take over.

If “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno is having second thoughts about surrendering his job as planned, NBC doesn’t share them — at least not publicly.

“Conan O’Brien will take over ‘The Tonight Show’ in 2009,” NBC Universal President and CEO Jeff Zucker said Monday

Zucker said he’d like Leno to remain with the company and that “we are in those conversations now.”

“I’m hopeful that Jay will be with us,” the executive told the question-and-answer session.

A deal for Leno’s exit was finalized three years ago as part of NBC Universal’s effort to keep “Late Night” host O’Brien from bolting to a competing network. Leno marked his 15th year as host of “Tonight” last May.

Leno has said he’s comfortable with his planned departure but, according to a report earlier this month in the Los Angeles Times, the comedian has grown reluctant to retire as host of the fabled, top-rated late-night program.

Halle Berry Issues Apology for Jewish Joke.

Halle Berry is a banger! She is gorgeous even in her 40′s.

HALLE Berry was apologizing last night after she’d made an apparent anti-Semitic joke while taping “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Friday afternoon.

The Oscar-winning star, on the show to promote her movie “Things We Lost in the Fire,” was showing Leno and his audience images of herself on her computer using the Mac program Photo Booth, which distorts images like a carnival fun-house mirror.

According to one audience member, “She introduced the first photo by saying, ‘Here’s where I look like my Jewish cousin!’ – it was a picture of her with a huge, distorted nose. No one laughed, and Jay nervously said, ‘I’m glad you said that and not me.’ When the show aired, they cut out her ‘Jewish’ comment and added a laugh track to the bit.”

Another guest in the audience told us, “If you watch the clip, you can see Halle saying the word ‘Jewish,’ though obviously there is no audio.

Berry, who even offered to call Page Six’s source and apologize in person, said, “It was just a lighthearted segment that was meant to make fun of myself. There was a picture where I said I looked like Monica Lewinsky and one where I said I looked like Jay. It was just supposed to be a silly segment. I am so sorry, and I apologize.”

Watch the video. The actual joke has been edited out.
